Are you Drinking Enough Water?

Everyone should drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day right? No! That’s so 1945.

If you google, “How much water should I drink daily”, you’ll get a million different answers. So how are you supposed to know how much water to consume?!

Below is a guideline that I follow and the only one I use with all of my clients:

1. To calculate how much water ON AVERAGE to consume daily, take your weight in pounds and divide it by 2. Your answer will be the amount of water in ounces to consume daily.

Example: A 140lb woman would need to drink at least 70 ounces of water per day.

140/2=70

Now, if you exercise or live in a warm climate, you’ll want to drink more. The calculation above is an AVERAGE amount for a healthy human being.

Breastfeeding? I recommend drinking an extra 8 ounces during each feeding. Aim for an extra 28-32 ounces a day to accommodate the extra water needed to produce milk.

Want to know if you’re drinking enough? Look at your urine! It should be fairly clear. Also, do you find yourself thirsty a lot? Thirst is a sign that you’re already dehydrated so increase your water intake!

Keep in mind that the average person gets about 25% of their water intake via the food they eat.
