I’ve been vegan/plant-based for 65 days now. 🌱

I’ve been getting a lot of questions regarding this lifestyle change, so I figured it would be a good time to answer them now.

Question: Has it been difficult to eat vegan?

Answer: Most of the time no. As long as I plan well, I don’t have any issues. If I get in a bind, I have learned where I can eat on-the-go such as Chipotle, Green Top, Fresh Thyme, Nightshop, Core Life Eatery, etc. I like to control what I put in my body, so I make a lot of my own food.

Question: How do you get enough protein?

Answer: Just 3.5 ounces each of beans and quinoa provides approximately 84% of your daily protein needs. The myth that plant proteins are incomplete (a myth I once believed) has been dismissed by the nutrition community decades ago.

Question: Are you tired and grumpy all the time?

Answer: I have more energy now than before. More energy = Happy Dana.

Question: Why did you go vegan?

Answer: I feel like this has been a long time coming for me. I’m always researching and learning about nutrition. I couldn’t ignore the science that proves that a plant-based diet is superior when it comes to health benefits. I also watched quite a few documentaries. Earthlings was a game changer for me. My interest in a plant-based diet sprouted selfishly while trying to improve my health. After watching Earthlings, this lifestyle took on a higher meaning. I could no longer justify the slaughtering of animals merely because I enjoyed how they tasted. I read the science. I knew that it was not necessary to eat animals to be healthy. I had been duped and it was time to make a change.

Question: Do you eat cheese, eggs, or fish?

Answer: I do not eat eggs or fish. I have had cheese on a few occasions, which I am still working to eliminate completely as it has never agreed with me digestively.

Question: How do you have energy to exercise?

Answer: My performance during workouts has been amazing. My endurance has increased tremendously and I am not fatigued and/or sore the days following a hard workout like I once was during my carnivore days. It’s one of my favorite things about this lifestyle.

Also, I just signed up for a duathlon, so there’s that! 😂

Question: What has been the most challenging part of transitioning to veganism?

Answer: Getting the right combination of food that would fuel MY body did take some time to figure out. Either I ate too much and had a belly ache or I didn’t eat enough and would be starving before dinner. I am still tweaking things, but overall, I think I have the hang of it now.

Question: Do you take supplements?

Answer: I do take a multivitamin and probiotic daily. My multivitamin does contain 100% DV of B12, which I suggest all plant-eaters to supplement.

Question: Are you going to eat this way forever?

Answer: I will continue to eat this way until my body stops responding well to this lifestyle. I honestly don’t see that happening though!

Question: Where do you find recipes?

Answer: Pinterest has been great! I have a board just for plant-based recipes. Check it out here: https://pin.it/b327t7tq5tm4sa. Also, Rich Roll has an awesome plant-based meal plan tool. Check that out here: https://meals.richroll.com. I also love throwing together salads or just eating a big plate of vegetables and quinoa.
