There are so many sugar substitutes out there! How do you know which is best for your health?
Personally, I’m a fan of coconut sugar aka coconut nectar aka coconut palm sugar.
While there is still some debate on the correct glycemic index for coconut sugar is it a clear winner when it comes to health benefits.
Coconut sugar contains minerals, vitamins, in phytonutrients that refined sugar does not.
It also contains inulin. Inulin has the ability to stimulate the growth of intestinal bifidobacteria, commonly found in probiotics, which can provide an overall boost to the immune system.
It tastes similar to brown sugar and works great as a 1:1 ratio when substituting white refined sugar in recipes.
Now, like any sugar refined or not, it is still important to avoid overconsumption. Use this for special occasions and special treats.
You can find coconut sugar in most grocery stores in the health food section.
