Breastfeeding Support

If you’re pregnant or a brand new mama who would like to breastfeed, this one is for you!

I read a ton of breastfeeding info and tips. I am a planner by nature so by golly I was going to be READY for this new adventure.

But it wasn’t what I expected AT ALL.

I did not expect the challenges, the tears, the pain, or the immense bonding.

My breastfeeding journeys with both of my sons were very different from each other.

I wish I had known to reach out for help my first time around or swallowed my pride to speak up when things weren’t going as planned.

The first few weeks were very painful and I had a tough time getting him to latch correctly. I felt like a failure.

I wanted him to get breastmilk but felt defeated and the thought of nursing in public (introvert here!) was absolutely terrifying and created a lot of anxiety.

So I decided to pump exclusively. Somehow I told myself that it would be easier. Let me tell you, it’s not!

My hands were cracked and bleeding with the amount of washing and sterilizing I was doing of baby bottles and pump accessories.

I wanted to give up so many times as I sat there tethered to a machine that felt like it was literally sucking the life out of me.

But I persevered for 12 months. I am extremely stubborn when I set my mind to something.

Then came my second son. I decided to change everything. It definitely helped knowing what to expect in those first few weeks.

Engorgement, pain, cluster feeding all day and night.

I struggled with my supply with my first son but somehow was producing enough for triplets with my second son! What in the world?!

But even with oversupply and challenges, my second breastfeeding journey was enjoyable and stress free. And I nursed whenever and wherever I wanted! Because well it’s legal and NORMAL.

So why was my second time around so much easier?

I asked for HELP! *Gasp*

Such an unusual concept right?!

I was a member of a local Breastfeeding Facebook group. I worked with an IBCLC at a local hospital (for free) and I talked to my other mama friends who had walked this path before.

I surrounded myself with women that were knowledgeable and giving. They embraced and supported me the whole way.

So, this isn’t a How-To-Breastfeed post (that is coming soon!).

This is a Don’t-Be-Afraid-to-Ask-for-Help post!

Search out a local FB group, a La Leche Group, a Lactation Consultant, and/or an IBCLC. Get the help you need and deserve.

What can these resources help with?

•Positioning of baby
