Erectile Dysfunction

It’s true…90% of my clients are female and many of my posts are geared toward female-specific health issues.

But this one is for my male clients and followers!

In the United States, we’re number one when it comes to impotence aka the inability for a man to achieve an erection or orgasm. This affects 30 MILLION men in the US and approximately 100 MILLION men worldwide.

While this may not seem as alarming as the heart disease rates in the US, it should!!

You see, erectile dysfunction is a common SYMPTOM of vascular disease.

Atherosclerosis is considered a systemic disorder that uniformly affects all major blood vessels in the body.

Hardening of the arteries can lead to softening of the penis, since stiffened arteries can’t relax open and let the blood flow. (1)

This is why erectile dysfunction (ED) has been called “penile angina”. (2) And the reason why every young man should care about their cholesterol levels is because they predict erectile dysfunction later in life (3), which in turn predicts heart attacks, strokes, and a shortened life span (4).

And this is not just a male issue! Women with higher cholesterol levels report significantly lower arousal, orgasm, lubrication, and sexual satisfaction. (5)

It doesn’t have to do with lack of desire, performance, etc. so don’t be ashamed! Instead, let’s get to work on changing your diet and improving your heart and sexual function!

Foods to Avoid:

1. Processed sugar

2. Processed meat

3. Fried foods

4. Processed oils such as canola and vegetable oil.

5. Less meat, the better! (6)(7)(8)

6. Fast food (9)

7. High sodium foods

8. Trans fats

9. Cigarettes!

It turns out that foods that are good for your heart are good for sexual function too. How ironic!

Foods to Improve Heart Health and ED:

1. Pistachios

2. Brazil Nuts (10)

3. Watermelon (11)

4. Berries (cherries, blackberries, blueberries, etc)

5. Dark Leafy Greens

6. Whole grains

7. Flaxseeds (12)

So there you have it! Focus on your heart health and watch your sexual performance improve immensely!
