Homemade vs. Store- Bought Baby Food

There is a misconception out there that making baby food is time consuming and complicated. I’m here to tell you it’s not!

There are some definite benefits of making your own baby food. Here’s the Top 5:

1. Less Expensive: I would roast sweet potatoes and other vegetables for my husband and I am then use some of it to make baby food. This way I wasn’t cooking twice or buying foods that no one else would eat. Also, if you make food in large batches, you can freeze the extra and save lots of money!

2. No preservatives or additives: Homemade food contains no salt, sugar, preservatives, etc unless you add them of course!

3. Much lower heavy metal levels: If you didn’t read my article on 1/20/20 about the recent study finding heavy metals in 95% of store bought baby food, I highly recommend you do!

4. Fresher AND healthier: Baby food that has been sitting in the store has lost some nutrients. Homemade baby food is fresher and maintains more nutrients.

5. You get to choose the ingredients: You can be as adventurous as you want and customize your baby’s food based on their specific preferences. This means your baby is more likely to eat the food you provide! Plus, they get used to the taste of real food, which is always a bonus.

So there you have it, just 5 of the many reasons why homemade food is inferior to store bought.

I’ll be sharing some pro tips soon to help you make baby food super fast and stress free! Stay tuned!!

**Also, keep in mind that you can bypass making baby food altogether and choose a practice called Baby Led Weaning where you simply give your child small bites of food or food that they can take bites of themselves. I’ll be sharing a post of this topic soon as well!
