The Best Prenatal

I am very passionate about taking a high quality prenatal. I don’t just recommend taking a prenatal during pregnancy, I recommend taking it throughout your childbearing years and while breastfeeding.

When I first found out I was pregnant, I was not in the best health. I was under a lot of stress at work and not taking care of myself. I went to my OB and she gave me a prescription for a free prenatal. Free!!

Now, I love free just as much as the next person, but when it comes to your prenatal, I believe that quality trumps price.

I highly suggest using a food-based prenatal vs a synthetic prenatal for a few reasons:

– Folic acid is not converted in the liver well making it less accessible to the body (1)

– Synthetic prenatals like the free prescription I received are notorious for causing constipation, bloating, and has due to the type of iron it contains. (2)(3)Typically ferric iron, ferrous sulfate, or ferrous fumarate. No thank you.

Why is a high quality prenatal so important?

Many mothers begin pregnancy deficient in one or more nutrients. Then, during pregnancy, the baby takes nutrients from the mother whether she has enough for herself or not. This can either deepen nutrient deficiencies or cause them if they are not replenished regularly with a prenatal and a healthy diet.

I’ll be sharing the most important nutrients to focus on during pregnancy when it comes to your diet SOON, but until then, let’s take a look at my top picks for prenatal supplements: (In no particular order)

1. New Chapter Perfect Prenatal:

2. My Kind Garden of Life Prenatal:

– Take once a day

– MULTIVITAMIN WITH IRON: With 18mg iron and 600mg Folate, this prenatal with folate helps support healthy neural tube development

– VITAMINS AND MINERALS: One whole food multivitamin packs 21 essential vitamins and minerals plus organic ginger and lemon peel to help fight nausea

– CERTIFIED ORGANIC MULTIVITAMIN: Vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO verified whole food multivitamins with NO synthetic binders or fillers.

3. Seeking Health Prenatal:

– Great for mothers who have the MTHFR defect or who are unsure if they have it as this prenatal contains methylfolate and folinic acid. The MTHFR defect causes the inability to process folic acid or even folate, so these forms are very important to combat this.

– Does not contain iron, so I suggest adding Megafood Blood Builder or Vital Proteins Beef Liver pills.
